It strikes me that this is a losing proposition for them. for instance, what if they are successful and block sunlight? what will happen to all their solar power dreams? seems to me they will be dramatically devalued, likely being even more useless than they currently are. didn't any of these geniuses ask that question?

This is actually nothing new. The government has been playing around with weather modification since the 1950s and 60s. Search weather modification and cloud seeding by the US government and you will find info about various experiments with hurricanes and typhoons. I’ve also heard cloud seeding has been recently implemented to curb the drought in the western US. The government(s) have been conducting various experiments on the population and the planet for a very long time. It is not a good idea to play God with His creation, sooner or later He will remind them (and us) of this little detail. Lord have mercy upon us! 🙏
