yes, I agree, the family producer and small farmer is what must be supported. That said, the problem is not restricted with the Gates Bezos etc. The bottom line is for sure the human greed. That does not ens with the big corporations. In fact, without ordinary people's greed the corporations would not be fuelled.

When you say "The horror of a newborn animal of any kind screaming to be fed before being slaughtered is so repulsive and abhorrent to most people; only the most evil person's could ever display such evil." - the bottom line of that truth is that people do not pay proper prices for animals to be reared well. If people would only dig into their pockets and pay the proper price for meat and never buy the industrially made stuff its production would disappear. That they do not pay real costs simply enabvles the producers, feeding the corporate beast. If we as a population don't wnt to pay then we can't complain about the bad practices. If we want good practice we have to bear the costs.
My point is that vegetarians are misguided in thinking that what they are doing is saving animals by not eating meat - it is absolutely not. If they want dairy then they have to also have the meat. The reality of dairy production is that, in order to have the milk which would be fed to her calf, the calf has to be taken away and the cow milked to retain milk production until well into her next pregnancy. That's the truth. Without eating the product of the pregnancy - i.e. the calf. that baby has to be disposed of. Those are the calves I see in the slaughterhouse. Nothing to do with evil people wanting to kill those calves, it is a fact of life and death. Sure, it's terrible in the extreme. If more were aware then perhaps they would think twice about what they actually shove into their pie holes. Perhaps not. Greed is a powerful driver.
Most people do not, as a whole, eat veal as is is seen as 'cruel' to eat a baby animal even though people don't object to eating lamb and pork which are made from baby and young animals often a mere handful of months old. When folk think of veal they imagine veal crates, which I agree is an abhorrant farming practice. There is nothing wrong with pink veal though, which is simply young beef. No different from lamb or pork.
That is Nothing to do with Gates or Bezos. Those calves are there because peolple want the dairy and won't buy/pay for the meat. As I say, the bottom line is greed. Human greed. From whoever, corporations or the individual, it is still greed, and lack of awareness. How many people have witnessed what I have at the slaughterhouse? Very, very few. Most folk have absolutely NO awareness of what goes into their food, they just want it as cheap as possible. While poeple buy cheap crap on the back of terrible practices those methods will be perpetuated. End of.
He who pays the piper calls the tune. It works both ways. Don't feed the beast. Pay proper prices for properly raised animals and make the best of ALL the whole carcass, not just the fancy bits.
As a hands on small farmer of over thirty years believe me, I know a thing or two about the reality of what actually goes on rather than the sugar coated one sided propagandised nonsense people regurgitate from their idealistic ignorance.
Fully aware of all you're speaking about as a born, raised and professional Farmer/Rancher; it's my livelihood. In our area, there are no Veal Producers and virtually everybody has always raised their animals/poultry well...And, it doesn't cost any more than the junk. The difference is the politicization of Agriculture by the Industrialists from China, Brazil and even Australia...And, the lobbyists have purchased the FDA mandating only FMDA and FMIA approved Meats to be sold commercially instead of direct from Farm to table; fresh, not having any preservatives or additives and born, raised and processed in the U.S.A.
Have seen and forgotten more abuse of Farm Animals than you're ever possibly able to imagine; but that is the past for most people working as we do and teaching others the crafts and trades of 'Off-Grid' living. I'm certain some people slaughter the calves, lambs and young goats for money; but there are few actually willing to do this heinous act. Those in my community self-police and we watch one another...There have been some confronted by our organization here and a threat to bring Govt. into the community is all necessary to promote caution with those crossing the line. WE all know one another and those having sick and twisted proclivities towards such heinous practices in the past....We watch and they know we watch.
While many people have changed practices from the past, even less would harm the animals were the food possible to transfer directly from the farm to the consumer WITHOUT THE MIDDLE PEOPLE where most of the money lands.
THE GOVT. WILL NOT ALLOW THAT AS AN OPTION...Not because the food produced is harmful, poisoned or contaminated; but because
NOBODY IN THE MIDDLE IS GETTING THEIR EXTREME CUT OF PROFIT.
If people wish to end the harm...CHANGE THE PROCESS BY WHICH FOOD IS RAISED, PROCESSED AND ACQUIRED.
When people are allowed to find a trustworthy farmer/rancher to purchase food from; THAT is the most safe practice of all as to choose a trustworthy Food Producer would necessitate people to tour the Farm/Ranch, itself, huh? That's what our family and people do here.
You're totally unaware of how farmers/ranchers now fight to maintain their herds, grain production, orchard's and pastures as the Govt. is seriously seeking to STEAL OUR PRODUCTS AND REMOVING RESOURCES TO PRODUCE IF NOT RAISING PRICES SO HIGH, PRODUCTION IS PROHIBITIVE. I even hired an Amish man to teach me to farm using Draft Horses which is their primary method of production. IT IS BACK-BREAKING WORK and at my age...It's necessary to have help by younger men. At this time, we can't legally even keep our own heirloom seeds for next years planting...WE CAN ONLY LEGALLY PURSCHASE MONSANTO PRODUCTS WHICH DO NOT CONTAIN THE SAME NUTRITION AND THE GRAIN LACKS ABILITY TO REPRODUCE.
Perhaps, you need to get a grip...As sad as what you've described is; most of us out here have made certain to end abuse in our neighborhoods. If you wish good, clean and healthy food...THE ANSWER IS TO FIND A FARMER/RANCHER YOU TRUST, PURCHASE OUTRIGHT FROM THAT PERSON DIRECTLY AND KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT ABOUT HOW YOU FEED YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY.
