True. I'm not sure how long it has been that way. Anyone in the U.S. can be held for "mental evaluation" for 48 hours. During that time, they will be fed food laced with drugs they don't know about. And if they have insurance that will cover it, they're likely to be kept there for some vague reason until the insurance runs out.
I met a woman whose family would claim she was mentally unstable so they could take over her house and car and sell her possessions. When her insurance ran out, they'd let her go. After some period of time, the insurance would pay again. Someone in her family knew when that was and did it to her again. I advised her to cancel that insurance or it would just keep happening.
I also had a neighbor who would have his wife locked up until the insurance ran out so he could take his mistress to his huge McMansion without her being in the way. That happened at least twice that I know about. Yes, only a pretense.
