It is a growing movement around the western world

Sounds like the Norwegians support Trump's "Remain in Mexico" policy for themselves. My, how the wheel turns. When Europeans are put in American's shoes, they start understanding our position on immigration. It looks like they no longer support the Never Trumpers, at least on immigration issues.

Canada had a very good immigration system for decades that was overwhelmingly supported by the population.

Bring in 200,000 to 300,000 new citizens and residents. Add in international students and foreign workers in manageable numbers. In order to get residency people from other countries had to have credits such as an education, a certain amount of money and a decent level of English or French. We did occasionally allow in larger groups in one time as refugees from Uganda, Vietnam, Syria, etc. (1970s to 2015). Polls showed 70% to 85% support over the years.

Then in 2021/2022 all the rules were thrown out and in four/five years 5 million plus new residents came to Canada legally and illegally. Support for immigration tanked. At one point Canada had one million international students (more in number than the USA). Nobody knows how many illegal immigrants there are: I have heard numbers from 30,000 to one million plus.

My family has legal immigrants from Denmark, the UK, Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines. I am massively against our period of mass migration. What a large own goal as housing has not keep up with demand and our hospitals are overwhelmed (lack of staff and clinics).

It seems that all my friends in East Asia have learned from the West and do not want large numbers of new residents.

Politicians opened the flood gates. Thy want voters dependent on the welfare state. Same thing happened in the US, and we are not better off. Indeed, we have mass crime, no assimilation, and $billions spent to support them. Housing is short supplied a hospitals are strained. Offering “free stuff” is an anchor sinking the ship.

Best Regards
