Whenever I speak about electric cars, I always ask people if they've ever seen a robot with a combustion engine. I know it's not possible because electrical motors are much more controllable than combustion fueled systems and the vibrations emitted are not compatible with control systems or sensors. So, the reason for electric car engines is for AUTONOMOUS car engines. I.e. they don't want YOU to be driving, they want the robot to be driving. So that they have full control over where you go and full knowledge of where you went. This is actually written in the whitepapers about electrical vehicles, the actual point is to replace cars with fleets of EVs that nobody owns and that carry people around like taxis.
