This is such a sad statement on the blindness of the alleged leadership in Sweden, and the greater concern is that there are so many other nations going down the same road.
I don't know for sure, and I'm not there, but I sense they are afraid of being called racist because so many of the rapes are perpetrated by immigrants from the Middle East and Africa
I think you are absolutely right. But how long does a society allow such heinous crimes continue? Doesn't that make the populace somewhat of an accessory?
I am so over coddling ANY group of people. IMO - let's ALL put on the mantle of adulthood - if you transgress against another or their property, then you must pay the consequence of that action. If you've been transgressed against, then you are due reparations. Boom. Done.
I realize that it isn't as simple as that, but we need to get things in proportion.
Hi Julin. Your words are wise - ''let's ALL put on the mantle of adulthood - if you transgress against another or their property, then you must pay the consequence of that action.'' As I was growing up violence was all around me, including in my family. I have learned to stop beating around the bush when justice should be served right away. Not tomorrow, but today!
Aww, sorry to hear that, Evy. That's a tough way to have to move through your formative years.
I think most of it has to do with commonsense . Like the book "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten" - basic stuff, the Golden Rule. We all have more commonalities than we do exclusivities. We've all grown too used to being regarded as 'special'. Knock it off.
Thank you, Julin. I really admire you and Andy. You two make so much sense and if you aren't leaders, you should be. An editor once told me if there was a movie made about me; it would be titled 'True Grit. A sheriff once told me I was street smart. All my friends tell me I have common sense. I have learned to be a survivor, because if you don't you sink. Having fur-babies helps, too. I have a husband; a son and I have been blessed with many friends. Life is what you make it. I also have God in my life!
I have very strong feelings about rape, because it happened to me. If I were the leader in Sweden, I would make an example out rapists. I would have their hands, and their penis cut off. It would be a deserving punishment. Just talking about the rape problem doesn't solve the rape problem. It's over-time for action. Forgive me if I sound blunt and harsh.
Where are the people of Sweden on this? Isn't there outrage amongst them? Do they look the other way when this topic comes up? Are they a 'hands off' society letting 'things play out as they will' or 'that's their neighbor's business - we shouldn't interfere'? And, if so, WHY?
I remember when abortion became legalized in Sweden in 1975. To say it was appalling to my Catholic friends, family, Church, school is an understatement. Those who thought it was a good idea extolled the virtues of a society in which its children were wanted and welcomed, that it reduced the crime rate, that women were better off psychologically if they aren't saddled with an unwanted child.
Those who thought this law was the beginning of a new kind of 'morality', i.e., do what you want, consequences be damned - couldn't even envisage what the sanctioning of abortion could or would do to the Swedish citizenry. Perhaps, it has now come into sharper focus.
Fifty years hence from the establishment of that law it makes me wonder if the people who decried it might have had the right idea all along. Once a nation relegates a portion of its citizenry as disposable, the slope becomes very slippery.
“The true measure of a society is how it treats its weakest members.”

True that the leadership is responsible for a good deal but so are the Swedish people. WHY are they letting this happen?

Absolutely, if one of those lowlifes raped my daughter/sister/wife I would track the bastard down and castrate him with a dull knife.
Thank you, Mike, for responding. I like the way you think! I wish you were my dad.

Thank you for this post. I am shocked and especially that nearly 1/2 were against children.
Government needs to stand tall and protect its citizens. If a particular group is the cause, deport them.
No time for political correctness or fear of being called names.
